Monday Motivation August 6, 2018 – Find The Bigger YES Inside You.
It’s Easy To Say “No” When You Have A Bigger “Yes” Inside You.
How many times have you agreed to do something you were asked to do and almost immediately regretted it? You don’t have time to do it. You are already stressed thinking about how you are going to fit it in. You don’t even want to do it. It’s not even something you really care about. It certainly isn’t something that is high on your priority list.
So Why Did You Say ‘Yes”?
- You wanted to be helpful and supportive?
- You wanted the person to like and accept you?
- You wanted to be “nice”?
- You wanted to be seen to be collaborative and co-operative?
- You were frightened the person might reject you or be angry if you said “No”?
- You want to stay in this person’s “good books”?
- You feel you can’t say “No” to your manager?
What Is The Price You Will Pay For Not Saying “No”?
- You’ll be stressed and anxious trying to fit everything in.
- You’ll probably become tense and irritable with people who interrupt you.
- You’ll have to do work at home at nights and over the week-end to stay on top of things.
- Your family won’t be happy with you because you are unavailable and not in the best of moods.
- You’ll become an easy target for the next job that needs to be done because your manager knows you will never say “No”.
- You will gain a reputation for being “a lovely person” but not someone who can make the hard decisions a manager needs to make and hence will not be promoted, regardless of how supportive and collaborative you are.
So How Do You Say “No”?
You find the bigger “Yes” inside you.
What is most important in your life? Get clear about it. Always say “Yes” to that.
This “Yes” represents the non-negotiables in your life.
My Monday Motivation Challenge This Week.
Spend time working out what the non-negotiables are in your life. What is the bigger “Yes” inside you? When you learn to say that “Yes” loud and clear, it will become easy to say “No” to anything that gets in its way.
